IBM to modernize the issuance of corporate debt using blockchain technology from Securitize
January 21, 2019
San Francisco, 21 January 2019 - Securitize, a digital security (aka security token) issuance platform and protocol, has been selected to join the IBM Blockchain Accelerator program as it works to modernize a portion of the US$82 trillion corporate debt market using blockchain technology.
"As the leader in enterprise blockchain, IBM is proud to welcome Securitize and nine others to the inaugural IBM Blockchain Accelerator program," said David Post, managing director, IBM Blockchain Ventures. "The participants have been chosen for their promising use cases and dedication to building scalable blockchain networks that have the power to transform existing business processes.”
Securitizing debt through issuing digital securities offers significant time and cost efficiencies over existing models which have been used for decades.
“Taking something complex and expensive to issue and manage like debt and moving it to the blockchain makes sense. Smart contracts are built to do just this,” said Carlos Domingo, Founder & CEO of Securitize. “Our platform and protocol solution is better than what exists today, and is another step in the modernization of financial markets.”
Securitize’s Digital Securities (DS) Protocol will provide automation and efficiency around complicated debt waterfall structures thereby providing a modern solution for the finance industry.
This solution will be much simpler to administer and deploy while providing a level of transparency and auditability that has never existed before today.
As part of its offering, Securitize will handle the technical aspects of issuance and lifecycle management for tokenized corporate debt. This new product is available immediately and Securitize is working with a number of issuers to expand the adoption.
Securitize’s DS Protocol has the highest adoption rate in the market and currently powers Blockchain Capital, 22x, SPiCE VC, Augmate, Aspencoin, Lottery and Science Blockchain, with more in the pipeline for this year.
In addition, Securitize will join The Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger in February of 2019.
Hyperledger is a multi-project open source collaborative effort hosted by The Linux Foundation, created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies.
Securitize is a compliance platform and protocol for issuing and managing digital securities on the blockchain, including dividends, distributions, and share buy-backs. Securitize’s innovative Digital Securities Protocol (DS Protocol) enables seamless, fully compliant trading across multiple markets simultaneously.
